Batteries are an indispensable source of power for electric forklift truck. At present, the vast majority of electric forklifts are equipped with lead-acid batteries. Due to the poor technical condition of the battery, it is not uncommon to affect the use of the vehicle. Therefore, it is of great significance to use lead-acid batteries correctly to prolong their service life. Next, let us take you to understand it.
1. Do not replace the charger at will
The chargers of various manufacturers generally have individual requirements, and the speed limit of the controller is removed. Do not change the charger at will when you are not sure. While removing the speed limit from the controller can increase the operating speed of some forklifts, it not only reduces the safety of the car, but also reduces the life of the battery.
2. Protect the charger
The general instruction manual contains instructions on protecting the charger. Many users do not have the habit of reading the manual. They often find the instructions after a problem arises. Usually it's too late. In addition, it should be noted that the charger should be kept ventilated during charging, otherwise it will not only affect the service life of the charger, but also cause thermal drift and affect the charging status. This will damage the battery. Therefore, protecting the charger is also very important.
3. The battery should be properly charged
The initial charging of the battery is called initial charging. The initial charge has a big impact on the battery life and charge capacity. If the charge is insufficient, the charge capacity of the battery is not high and the service life is short; if the charge is too much, the battery's electrical performance is good, but its service life will also be shortened. Therefore, the battery should be charged with care initially.
4. Timely charging
The vulcanization process begins after the battery is discharged, and obvious vulcanization will appear after 12 hours. Vulcanization refers to the formation of a layer of white coarse-grained lead sulfate on the plate, which will seriously block the pores of the plate, making it difficult for the electrolyte to penetrate, resulting in a decrease in capacity. Its conductivity is extremely poor, which significantly increases the internal resistance of the battery and reduces the output power. Timely charging can clear the minor sulfides. If not charged in time, these sulfide crystals will continue to accumulate and gradually form thick crystals. Generally, the charger can’t do anything about these thick crystals, which will gradually reduce the battery capacity and shorten the use of the battery life. Therefore, in addition to charging every day, you should also pay attention to charging as soon as possible after use. The memory of lead-acid batteries is not so strong, so that the battery capacity can be as full as possible. Regular charging can effectively prolong the battery life.
5. Avoid overcharging
Stop charging when the charger shows full, not overnight or even days. Overcharging will cause hardening and shedding of the active material of the plate, resulting in water loss and battery deformation, shortening the battery life.
6. Prevent excessive discharge
The controller of an electric forklift usually has an undervoltage protection function. When the power meter shows that there is only one power supply, the power supply should be turned off as soon as possible to avoid excessive discharge. The internal resistance of the battery discharge to the end voltage is large, the electrolyte concentration is very thin, especially the plate hole and surface are almost neutral, the excessive discharge internal resistance heating tendency, volume expansion, large discharge current, obvious heating or even heating deformation, the concentration of lead sulfate is particularly large, Lead sulfate crystallizes into large particles, that is, forms irreversible sulfate, which further increases internal resistance, poor charging recovery ability, or even irreparable.
7. Periodic full discharge
A battery that is fully discharged on a regular basis is also good for "activating" the battery, which can slightly increase the battery's capacity. The general approach is to fully discharge the battery periodically. The way to fully discharge is to protect the forklift under normal load on a flat road. After fully discharged, the battery is fully charged, and you will feel that the battery capacity has increased.
8. Pay attention to the charging environment and use environment
The ambient temperature for good charging is 25°C. At present, most chargers are equipped with an automatic control system to adapt to the ambient temperature, so most chargers are designed according to the ambient temperature of 25°C. In summer, the temperature of the battery should be lowered as much as possible to ensure good heat dissipation, prevent charging after being exposed to the hot sun, and keep away from heat sources. In addition, it is necessary to fully understand the operation of the battery in the high temperature season, as well as the change of the entire service life. Do not place the battery in an overheated environment during use, especially keep it away from heat sources when charging. After the battery is heated, cooling measures should be taken, and the battery can be charged after the temperature of the battery recovers. When the battery discharge depth is shallow or the ambient temperature is high, the charging time should be shortened.
9. Replenish the electrolyte in time
During the charge and discharge process, due to electrolysis and evaporation, the water in the electrolyte will gradually decrease, causing the surface of the electrolyte to drop. If it is not replenished in time, it will accelerate the vulcanization speed of the battery plate and shorten the service life of the battery. Therefore, it should be checked regularly and supplemented with distilled water in time (distilled water can be purchased in hospitals or chemical stores). Do not use pure water instead, because pure water contains a variety of trace elements and ions, which will aggravate the internal self-discharge of the battery, and severe self-discharge will shorten the service life of the battery.
With the vigorous development of electric forklifts, it is also very important for users to correctly use and regularly maintain the use of lead-acid batteries to solve the problem of the service life of lead-acid batteries. Proper use can guarantee battery life. Regular maintenance is also an important means of extending battery life. Potential hidden dangers of quality can be found in advance, which is also the embodiment of prevention. This can improve economic benefits, reduce high-economic investors in battery replacement, and is also a manifestation of building an energy-saving society.
