How to Maintain Electric Forklift Batteries - Maintenance Methods for Electric Forklift Batteries
Apr 02 , 2025
Electric counterbalance forklift refer to vehicles that use electricity to operate, and most of them work for batteries. The battery is a type of battery, and its function is to store limited electrical energy and use it in a suitable place. Below, will share with you the maintenance methods of the battery of an electric forklift, hoping to help you!
Precautions
During the charging and discharging process of the battery, the water in the electrolyte will gradually decrease due to electrolysis and evaporation, causing the electrolyte level to drop. If it is not replenished in time, it may shorten the service life of the battery, and distilled water should be replenished in time. Do not use drinking pure water instead, because pure water contains a variety of trace elements, which will have adverse effects on the battery.
When adding electrolyte or water to the electric lift truck battery, pay attention to the electrolyte being 10 to 15 mm higher than the plate; for batteries with two red lines, the electrolyte must not exceed the upper red line. If the electrolyte is too full, it will overflow from the small hole in the battery cover. Once it flows between the positive and negative poles of the battery, it will form a circuit for self-discharge. In this case, the electrolyte should be wiped off or rinsed with boiling water.
If something accidentally falls into the electrolyte when adding electrolyte, do not use metal objects to remove it. Use a wooden stick to clamp out the impurities; if you use iron wire or copper wire to remove it, the metal molecules will enter the battery under the corrosion of sulfuric acid to form self-discharge and damage the battery. If the vehicle stops running for more than 20 days, the negative pole wire of the battery should be removed to avoid leakage accidents.
Forklift battery
1. Adopt polyester fiber pipe, good elasticity, small pore size, low resistance, high air permeability;
2. Fully insulated soft connecting wire, no leakage current;
3. The valve structure of the top plug is ejected, with a special electrolyte level indicator;
4. Equipped with automatic water filling cap;
5. Adopt imported high-quality oblique partition with multiple micropores, high porosity and low resistance;
6. Adopt PP battery shell and cover material, impact resistant;
7. The patented terminal sealing structure completely prevents the plate growth and leakage.
Daily maintenance
1. The battery should be frequently replenished with distilled water (pure water). 2. If the electric forklift is not used for a long time, the battery should be fully charged and put aside. And keep charging at a frequency of about 1 to 2 months. 3. When working in multiple shifts, the motor-driven storage forklift needs a backup battery (under continuous work, the battery power consumption is fast and the battery loss is also relatively large).
4. When charging the battery, the charging circuit must be completely separated from the chopper, because in addition to affecting the charging of the charger, the overvoltage generated by the charger will also damage the chopper.
5. Do not place the battery horizontally. Because the inside of the battery is generally 22~28% dilute sulfuric acid. When the battery is placed upright, the electrolyte can submerge the plate and there is still a little space left. If the battery is placed horizontally, part of the electrode plate will be exposed to the air, which is very bad for the battery plate. In addition, the observation hole of the general battery or the top of the battery has an exhaust port connected to the outside world, so the electrolyte is easy to flow out when the battery is placed horizontally.
6. Choose an intelligent staged charger to prevent water loss caused by overcharging.
7. Choose a high-efficiency electric hub system to reduce the working current.
8. Charge frequently or maintain a reasonable charging frequency. It is best to charge in a planned manner. For example, charge once a day or once every two days. 9. Prevent storage with low power, which is most harmful to the battery.
