8 common forklift classifications
Apr 20 , 2021

Forklifts are one of the most widely used mechanical equipment in the industrial field. Whether in warehouses, factories or construction sites, forklifts are required for a large number of cargo handling tasks.However, there are many types of forklifts, and forklifts of different types and capacities have their own advantages. You need to have a relative understanding of forklifts before purchasing or renting projects.According to the different working methods of future robots, the 8 types of forklifts currently popular on the market and the unmanned situation of each type of forklift are listed:

1) Pallet forklift

2) Stacking forklift

3) Counterbalanced forklift

4) Reach forklift

5) Picking a forklift

6) Cross-country forklift

7) Heavy-duty forklift

8) Telescopic forklift

1) Pallet forklift

Pallet forklifts are divided into electric pallet forklifts and manual pallet forklifts. The general load is about 2T. They are mainly used for the transfer of goods inside and outside production lines and warehouses. Since there is no lifting mast, pallet forklifts are only used in plane handling scenarios.Although pallet forklifts cannot lift goods, the purchase and lease costs are much lower.

2) Stacking forklift

Stacking forklift, also known as stacking forklift, refers to a wheeled handling vehicle for loading and unloading, stacking, stacking and short-distance transportation of pallet goods. The stacker has a mast, but it does not have a cab like other lift trucks, mainly for flexible handling and stacking operations.

3) Counterbalanced forklift

Counterbalanced forklift is currently one of the most widely used forklift classifications. The fork of the counterbalanced forklift is outside the center line of the front wheel. The main feature is that in order to overcome the overturning moment generated by the goods, a counterweight is installed at the rear of the forklift. A counterbalanced forklift equipped with pneumatic tires runs faster and has better climbing ability. The scope of operation is widely applicable to the loading and unloading, stacking and handling of finished items in ports, stations and enterprises. Forklifts under 3 tons can also be operated in cabins, train carriages and containers. The general lifting height is 2-6 meters.

4) Reach forklift

The mast or fork of the reach forklift can be moved forwards and backwards, the maximum lifting height has reached 11.5 meters, the load range is from 1 to 2.5 tons, and the development of multi-directional reach forklifts for storing and storing long and wide goods, Special purpose products such as double-depth reach forklifts and indoor and outdoor universal reach forklifts have gradually become the main tools.
5) Picking forklift

The picking forklift is also called the picking forklift. The forks and standing foot pedals are installed on the inner sliding frame and move up and down together with the loading and unloading device, and the operator can act on both sides of it to pick items stored on the shelves on both sides. The lift height of the picking forklift is 4 to 8 meters. The picking forklift has a small turning radius, which is suitable for narrow aisles and high-rise warehouses.

6) Cross-country forklift

Cross-country forklifts are the main classification of outdoor forklifts. Compared with industrial counterbalanced forklifts, cross-country forklifts use pneumatic tires, which are suitable for outdoor construction and work on uneven surfaces, such as gravel, sand, mud or even snow-covered ground. . The off-road forklift has a powerful engine, so it is faster, more flexible and durable. The load of a cross-country forklift is generally 3-5T.

7) Heavy-duty forklift

Heavy-duty forklifts (also known as large-capacity forklifts) combine the functions of warehouse forklifts with those of telescopic forks. They have a high load capacity and a lifting capacity of 13T-25T. Common heavy-duty forklifts include heavy-duty forklifts and container fronts. Crane forklifts and container stackers generally have a relatively narrow range of applications, and are concentrated in scenes such as heavy industry and container terminals.

8) Telescopic forklift

Telescopic forklifts, also called telescopic forklifts, have a boom and a telescopic boom. The forks connected to the telescopic boom move 2.5 materials off the ground and hoist them from a height of 6-19 meters. Telescopic forklifts are very suitable for reaching into narrow spaces and are widely used in factories, stations, docks, freight yards, post and telecommunications, forests, building materials, warehouses and other places.

To choose a suitable model from all the different types of forklifts, you need to consider some standards. The following are general reference standards for future robot cleaning to ensure the operating efficiency and safety of the selected equipment:

1) Determine the weight, length, width and height of the cargo;

2) Determine the lifting capacity (missing load) and lifting height of the forklift;

3) Determine the situation of the work site: ground load-bearing, slope, smoothness, site width and height limit;

4) Other factors: extreme operating temperature

If your budget is sufficient, in consideration of automation, safety, scientific management, etc., it is recommended that you add unmanned forklifts to replace manual operations in high-risk environments and improve operational efficiency.
